NOONTIME : SUMMER INTERNSHIP - IN TOUCH WITH REALISM
Do you know what it feels like to see your project getting implemented at your organisation? Do you know what it feels when your boss appreciates your work in front of his colleagues, subordinates and seniors? Do you know what it is to have a boss who is truly a guide and a mentor? Do you know how it is working with a guide who makes the dullest of tasks seem like a challenging and exciting assignment with the sheer power of his enthusiasm?
My project - the Development Manual for Leadership Competencies - is done. It was implemented on the 13th of May at a development center organised by JK Industries in association with SHL. The purpose was to create an individual development plan for each President, VP and GM who had undergone assessment. The development plan aims at enabling them to perform in a superior and outstanding manner on their professional front. This, apart from being a development opportunity, also acts as a succession plan for the individual. And my boss is unmistakably mighty pleased with the efforts and brains that have gone into the manual.
My boss - the perfectionist, the enthusiast. He has been considerably satisfied and happy with my performance so far, and has complimented me sincerely in public. He is the type of mentor who would want you to learn as much as possible in the limited time you have. His enthusiasm and excitement is as infectious as it is amazing. He makes every dreary job a challenge, every routine task a thrill. He has an eye for perfection, so much that he never seems to be satisfied with what he does the first time. He has the knack of spotting the tiniest of errors, and knows the most encouraging ways to learn from mistskes - his own or those of others. The level of his commitment to quality is an experience in itself. I hope I not only live up to, but exceed his expectations.
The new project is sort of an extension of the initial one, considering it is on much the same lines. However, it is a new and untread on territory. Wading into untested waters can be both challenging as well as daunting. But in this case, the challenge and excitement is far more than the fear of difficulty. It deals with designing yet another development manual - this time not for 12 competencies, but 32 dimensions of the famous OPQ.
OPQ, or Occupational Personality Questionnaire, is a widely-used assessment tool that helps identify personality types and attributes in a particular occupationary role. JK has gone a step beyond the others by linking their 12 competencies to the 32 dimensions of OPQ. The questionnaire is a set of 230 questions designed to test your personality traits in your own profession. An extremely important tool for assessment, it has become imperative to build a development manual for the same. This would suggest to the concerned individual modes and methods to achieve the perfect level of each desired personality trait.
My new project throws up a lot of challenges, and I am looking forward to each of them. This project too, like the previous one, is to be implemented as soon as possible. The milestones have been set, the deadlines have been planned, and a blueprint has been chalked out.
